Recently, the paradigm of the maritime security environment is changing in the international community and geographical, diplomatic and historical conflicts have long been occurring in countries around the Korean Peninsula. It serves as the site of the hegemony of the nations as well as the powers of the Korean Peninsula. The meaning of maritime sovereignty includes the sovereignty of the state over the sea, the jurisdiction of territorial waters, as well as the right to govern the resources of coastal waters, seas and seabeds is associated with the management and maintenance of maritime. In addition, maritime security focuses on maritime freedom and peaceful use, the protection and promotion of maritime trade, and the management and maintenance of maritime order. In this regard, maritime disputes in the Korean Peninsula usually arise from island ownership. There is a wide range of disputes involving sovereignty itself, disputes over territorial sovereignty, as well as economic disputes over the collection and use of resources. As a result, the role of maritime police for the protection of maritime sovereignty should be redefined by taking into account the broadness, diversity, suddenness and interactivity of traditional and non-traditional threats in the area of marine security.
