이 글은 [자본론]번역에서 제기되는 몇 가지 문제를 검토한다. 먼저 학술성과 가독성의 대립은 독자의 목적에 따라 서로 다른 세 가지 차원에서 파악될 수 있음을 주장한다. 즉, 학술성과 가독성은 일차원적 길항관계에 놓인 것이 아니라, 여러 차원에 걸친 중층적 관계라는 것이다. 다음으로 번역자가 부딪히게 되는 어려움의 세 가지 유형을 살펴본다. 이들 유형이 모든 어려움을 포괄할 수는 없겠지만, 다양한 번역본의 비교· 검토를 위한 기준으로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
This paper discusses some issues in translating Das Kapital into Korean. First, it is argued that the confrontation between academic exactness and readability can be captured at three different levels according to the purpose of the reader. In other words, the confrontation has a multidimensional structure, not a unidimensional character. Next, three types of difficulties often encountered by translators are examined with some examples. Although this is not an exhaustive list, it may be used as a starting point for a comparative analysis of various Korean editions of Das Kapital.
