커뮤니티매핑 활동이 예비교사의 지리공간기술의 교육적 활용성향에 미치는 영향

Effects of Community Mapping Activities in Classrooms on Preservice Teachers’ Dispositions toward Educational Uses of Geospatial Technologies

본 연구의 목적은 예비교사들이 지리공간기술을 교육적으로 활용하는 것에 대해 어떠한 태도를 가지고 있는지 알아보는 것과 커뮤니티매핑 활동이 예비교사들이 지리공간기술을 교육적으로 활용하고자 하는 태도를 키워주는데 유용한 도구가 될 수 있는지 알아보는 것이다. 먼저, 연구 참여자들이 평소에 지리공간기술을 수업에 활용하는 것에 대해 어떠한 태도를 가지고 있는지를 알아보기 위한 설문과 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 그 다음, 연구 참여자들에게 구글(Google) 지도를 활용한 커뮤니티매핑 활동을 체험하고 유사한 새로운 커뮤니티매핑 활동을 개발해 보게 하였다. 그 후, 다시 동일한 설문과 인터뷰를 진행하여 예비교사들이 지리공간기술의 교육적 활용에 대해 가지는 태도 변화를 확인하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 예비교사들은 지리공간기술을 교육적으로 활용하는 것에 대해서는 긍정적인 성향을 가지고 있으나, 그것을 교육현장에서 실제로 활용하는 것에는 소극적인 태도를 보였다. 둘째, 예비교사들이 지리공간기술을 교육적으로 활용하는 것에 소극적인 이유는 지리공간기술과 그것의 교육적 활용법에 대해 배울 수 있는 기회가 충분하지 않았기 때문이다. 셋째, 커뮤니티매핑 활동은 예비교사들이 지리공간기술의 교육적 적용에 대해 긍정적인 태도를 키울 수 있게 도와주는 효과적 체험도구이다.

Purpose of this study is to identify preservice teachers’ dispositions toward educational uses of geospatial technologies, and to identify usefulness of the community mapping activity to develop preservice teachers’ positive dispositions toward educational uses of geospatial technologies. First, a survey and an interview were conducted to identify preservice teachers’ dispositions. Then, the preservice teachers experienced a community mapping activity using Google Maps and developed similar new community mapping activities. After that, the same questionnaire and interview were conducted again to identify the change in dispositions that preservice teachers have toward educational uses of geospatial technology. The main findings are as follows. First, preservice teachers think that geospatial technology can be a useful tool to teach students, but they lack confidence in utilizing the technology in their classrooms. Second, preservice teachers lack confidence in utilizing geospatial technology because they did not have enough opportunity to learn geospatial technologies and its educational uses. Third, community mapping activity is an effective tool that helps preservice teachers develop a positive dispositions toward educational use of geospatial technologies.
