존재하는 것은 흔적을 남긴다. 이 자료 흔적이 쌓인 거대한 자료를 일컫는 용어인 빅데이터는 우리 곁에 깊숙이 침윤되어 있다. 빅데이터를 특징짓는 속성으로 부피, 속도, 다양성, 변산성, 진실성, 시각화, 가치로 표현되는 7V를 거론하나, 빅데이터가 무엇인지에 대해 일치된 정의는 존재하지 않는다. 빅데이터의 유형은 구조화된 관계형 자료와 비구조화된 비관계형 자료로 대별하나 관계형과 비관계형 중간 형태인 반구조화 자료도 있다. 각각 자료유형에 적합한 빅데이터 수집, 통합, 저장, 분석하는 패키지가 개발되어 있어 빅데이터 취급이 용이하다. 빅데이터가 생활 전반에서 활용되어 기존 세상을 바꾸는 예는 소매유통에서 학교개선에 이르기까지 매우 다양하다. 자료 흔적에 세상의 문제를 해결할 단서가 포함되어 있다. 이런 특성으로 인해 빅데이터는 매우 광범위하고 심도 깊게 사용될 것이다

What exists leaves a trail. Big data, the term used to describe huge data, is deeply embedded in our lives. The properties that characterize big data consist of 7 v’s. They are volume, velocity, variety, variability, veracity, visualization, and value, but there is no agreement of what big data is. The type of big data is divided into two categories: Structured relational data and unstructured non-relational data. Big data collection, integration, storage, and analytics are developed for each type of data, which makes it easy to handle big data. Big data uses in practice cover from retail distribution to school improvements. The data trail contains clues to solve the world s problems, because of these characteristics, big data will be used very widely and deeply.
