Objectives:Theobjectiveofthisstudywastoanalyzeacupuncturetreatmentresearch forweaningbyreviewingclinicaltrials. Methods:SevenelectronicdatabasesincludingEnglish,Korean,Chinesedatabaseswere comprehensivelysearchedforclinicaltrialsreportingtheeffectsofacupuncturetreatment forweaninguptoOctober31,2018.Inaddition,weevaluatedthemethodologicalquality ofincludedstudiesbyusingrelevanttoolsaccordingtothestudydesign. Results:Totally,11studiesincludingonerandomized controlledtrial,twocontrolled clinicaltrials,sevensinglearm studyandonecasereport,wereincludedinthisreview. Thirteen acupointswereused,and themostfrequently used acupointswereGB37and GB41(45.45%,respectively).Themostcommonlydescribedneedleretentiontimewas30 minutes(36.36%),and thetreatmentwasmostly conducted oncea day (80.00%).All included studiesreported thatacupunctureshortened thetimeneeded forweaningand relieved varioussymptomssuch asbreastpain and swelling.Therewereno reported adverse events associated with acupuncture treatment.The methodologicalquality of includedstudieswasgenerallyunclearorlow. Conclusion:Thisstudysuggestedthattheacupuncturetreatmentmaybeeffectivefor facilitating weaning and relieving various symptoms associated with weaning.Further well-designed clinicaltrialswith low methodologicalquality and appropriateassessment toolsneedtobeperformedtosolidifythesefindings.
