직업영어 학습이 특성화고등학교 학생들의 영어 어휘 학습에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of vocational English instruction on vocational high school students by measuring their general and financial vocabulary learning. Vocabulary tests were administered to 286 vocational high school students to measure their general and financial vocabulary understanding. The findings of this study illustrate that, understanding general vocabulary, no significant differences were observed between students who learned financial English and those who did not. Also, their understanding of general vocabulary is not related to how long they learned general English. However, in understanding financial vocabulary, the students who learned financial English showed better understanding of financial vocabulary than those who did not. The results imply that vocational English classes such as financial English need to be expanded in vocational high schools. The fact that the length of learning general English does not make a significant difference in students’ understanding of general as well as financial vocabulary substantiates the claim. The paper concludes with some suggestions for EFL classrooms, especially in vocational school settings, claiming a need for the curriculum revision and teacher training to extend vocational English to meet the needs of students.
