영화 <귀주 이야기>의 갈등 양상 연구

A Study on the Conflict Pattern Study of <The Story Of Qiu Ju>

이 연구의 목적은 영화 <귀주 이야기>에 등장하는 인물들의 갈등 양상을 밝힘으로써 1990년대 초반 중국 농촌사회의 소통방식에 대한 이해를 도우는 데 있다. 귀주의 남편인 민경래가 마을의 촌장과 다투다가 촌장에게 구타를 당하는 사건이발생한다. 사건은 당의 지시에 따라 고추 말리는 장소를 허락하지 않자 화가 난민경래가 딸만 넷인 촌장에게 ‘암탉하고만 살아라’는 악담을 하는 데서부터 시작한다. 민경래의 악담은 아들을 선호하는 촌장의 자존심을 매우 상하게 했고, 그 결과 촌장은 민경래에게 폭행을 하게 된다. 결국 민경래는 몸을 다치고 촌장은 마음을 다치는 싸움이었다. 귀주는 촌장이 마음을 다친 일보다는 남편이 몸을 다친 일을 더 중요하게 생각하는 인물이다. 귀주는 촌장에게 사과를 받아내기 위해서 향, 현, 시의 공안국에 도움을 요청하지만, 언제나 촌장의 사과보다는 금전적 배상으로판결이 난다. 귀주는 사과를 받아내기 위해서 결국 촌장을 법원에 기소하게 된다. 두 인물이 펼치는 법적 해결과 금전적 배상이라는 전략은 팽팽하게 맞서며 영화의서사를 추동하는 역할을 한다. 영화의 후반부에서 촌장이 귀주의 난산을 도와줌으로써 이들의 갈등은 해소된다. 하지만 귀주가 촌장의 사과를 받아내기 위해서 법원에 기소했던 판결의 결과는 사과가 아니라 촌장의 ‘구류’였기 때문에, 촌장은 경찰에게 잡혀가게 된다. 의외의 결과에 귀주가 난감해하는 표정을 지으며 영화는 끝이난다. <귀주 이야기>의 감독인 장이머우는 이 영화를 통해서 남성중심주의와 여권신장, 법 중심주의와 인정 중심주의의 혼종양상을 보이고 있는 1990년대 초반 중국 농촌 사회를 리얼하게 그려내고 있음을 볼 수 있다.

This study is to help understanding of early 1990’s Chinese rural societies by establishing the difference of communication strategy and the solution between the characters in the movie <The Story Of Qiu Ju>. An event occurred that Qui ju’s husband Min Kyung Rae had an argument with the village headman, and was struck by him. This event begins with angry Min Kyung Rae’s curse ‘Live with the h ens forever!’ to the headman who only had four daughters for him not allowing the place to dry the pepper by the party’s command. Min Kyung Rae’s curse hurt headman’s pride badly who preferred son, as a result he attacked Min. Eventually this fight hurt Min’s body and the headman’s heart. Qui ju is the character who thinks her husband’s hurt body is more important than the headman’s hurt heart. Qui ju asks for help at public security of the town to receive apology from the headman but the judgement is always monetary compensation instead of apology. She finally sues the headman to the court to get apology. The strategy between the two characters’ apologize and monetary compensation are in a fierce standoff and this roles giving an impetus to the narrative of the movie. The latter half of the movie their conflict is resolved by the headman helping Qui ju s difficult delivery. However the result of the judgement that Qui ju’s sue to get apology is headman’s detention not apology. The movie ends with Qui ju’s awkward face by the unexpected result. <The Story Of Qiu Ju>’s director Zhang Yimou draws up plot real of early 1990’s Chinese rural societies that shows male domination, the extention of women’s rights, seed contamination aspects of the law-centered and the compassion-centered through this movie.
