이 논문은 악서가 편찬되는 사회사적 맥락을 고려하여 ‘밀양 박준’이 어떤 인물인지, 그리고 그 악서는 『악장가사』와는 어떤 관계에 있는지 천착해 본 것이다. 『악장가사』 편찬자로 추정되기도 했던 ‘밀양 박준’은 최근에 이르러 『악장가사』와는 아무 관계가 없는 인물로 여겨지고 있다. 무엇보다 『악장가사』가 선조의 묘실 악장 <중광>이 지어진 이후에 편찬되었다는 주장이 설득력을 얻고 있기 때문이다. 그런데 『악장가사』에 남아 있는 여러 서지학적 특성은 그 저본이 임진왜란 이전에 편찬, 간행되었다고 볼 여지가 다분함을 말해 준다. 다시 말해, 그 저본에 <중광> 악장을 첨입하여 복각ㆍ간행한 것이 현전 『악장가사』일 가능성이 크다는 것이다. 이러한 가능성을 염두에 두고, 16세기 전반기 향촌 사족 사회의 문화 풍토 쇄신 운동과 밀양 박준의 악서 제작이 연관성이 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 특히, 주세붕을 중심으로 하는 향촌 사회 문화 풍토 쇄신운동은 악서 수요와 맞물려 있었는바, ‘밀양 박준’의 악서는 그런 맥락에서 만들어졌을 가능성을 확인한 것이다. ‘밀양 박준’은 16세기 전반기 향촌 사족 사회 문화 풍토 쇄신 운동을 주도한 인물들과 긴밀하게 교유한 인물로서, 기왕에 그 용도가 달리해서 편찬한 악서 인본 가운데 향촌 사족 사회에 필수적인 음악 레퍼토리를 골라서 한 편의 악서로 만들어 간행한 것으로 볼 수 있었다. 아악이든 속악이든 동방의 악에 해당하는 것 만을 모아서 간행한 악서는 『악장가사』가 유일하다. 그런 점에서 ‘밀양박준’의 악서가 곧 『악장가사』 저본일 가능성이 매우 큰 것이다. 그리고 ‘밀양 박준’이 활동한 무대는 주로 향촌 사족 사회 문화 풍토 운동이 가장 이른 시기부터 펼쳐진 경상도 남부 지역이었다. 그런 점에서 ‘밀양 박준’에 대해 추가적인 정보를 제공하는 기록 가운데 『퇴계선생문집고증』의 기록보다는 『밀양지리인물문한지』의 기록이 한층 더 신뢰할 수 있는 것이다.
Who was Miryang Park Jun 密陽 朴浚? How was he related to the book Akjang-gasa 樂章歌詞, a collection of songs for various rites in the Joseon Dynasty, Korea? This study tries to find out truthful answers through dealing all the data, which could be related to those two questions in the socio-historical context of his day. He has been treated as the maker or editor of that book, but recently the opinion that he did not have any relation with it become more persuasive. As Jungkwang 重光, a repertory of it was surely created after the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, we could not go the publishing time of it back to before the time. However, there are some textual bibliographic evidences which imply such a probability as the book could be published by re-engraving the former version and adding the new Akjang, Jungkwang (song of praising King Seonjo 宣祖’s virture). As results, this study makes sure that the music book of Park’s had certain relationship with the campaign which aimed to renovate the cultural characteristics of the intelligent communities in the local areas of the country, Joseon in the first-half of the 16th century. Especially, it seems to be published keeping step with the campaign being leaded by Ju Sebung 周世鵬(1495~1554). Park maybe had mainly played roles as a musician and a calligrapher for the intelligent community of the local area neighboring the downstream of Nakdong洛東 river belonging to the Gyeongsang-do province, where the same campaign had got started most early and widely in the half-before of the same century. In such a socio-historical context, Park seemed to select some from several published versions of country music repertory and republish the same book as the original of Akjang-gasa. That way, we can put our trust the Milju 密州 documents on him more than those of Toegyemunjibgojeung 退溪文集考證, a historical investigation of collections of Yi Hwang 李滉(1501~1570)’s writings.
