The purpose of this study is to identify problems and suggest solutions related to the pre-service teacher training program and national secondary English teacher selection examination. The study was proceeded as follows: First, it addresses the current states of English teacher education institutions, curriculums and professors. Second, it analyzes the questions of the examinations given during the last 4 years, from 2009 to 2012, and evaluates how well the curriculums and examinations are correlated with each other. Lastly, this study conducts a survey of teacher candidates in order to gather their opinions about the pre-service teacher training program and national secondary English teacher selection examination. Findings of this study are as follows: the program is required to expand English pedagogy courses dealing with practical contents and professors majoring in English pedagogy. It also needs to extend the period of teaching practice and change the system of English teacher education institutions. The national secondary English teacher selection examination should strengthen its correlation with the curriculum and extend the range of questions related to English pedagogy. It needs to be durable and consistent in carrying out the national secondary English teacher selection examination.
