중등영어교사양성 전공교과목에서 창의적 교수방법 활용 효과

The Effects of Creative Teaching Methods in a Secondary English Teacher Education Course: Focusing on an English Vocabulary Class

본 연구는 중등영어교사양성을 위한 전공교과목에서 창의적 교수방법의 활용이 예비영어교사의 창의교육 및 창의역량에 대한 인식, 영어어휘학습에 대한 태도 및 어휘지도 효능감 그리고 영어어휘의 산출에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 사립대학의 영어교육과에 개설된 전공교과목인 영어어휘수업에서 다양한 창의성 기법과 협동학습방법을 적용하여 한 학기 수업을 진행하였다. 수업의 효과를 알아보고자 2018년 2학기 수업의 수강생 33명을 대상으로 창의교육과 창의 역량에 대한 인식, 영어어휘학습에 대한 태도 및 영어어휘지도 효능감에 대한 사전·사후 설문조사, 영어어휘의 유창성과 다양성에 대한 사전·사후평가를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 창의적 교수방법 활용은 예비영어교사들의 창의교육에 대한 인식과 창의역량 중 사고의 유창성에 있어서 유의미한 차이를 보여 긍정적인 효과가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 영어어휘학습에 대한 정의적 태도에는 사전·사후 큰 변화가 없었으나 예비영어교사의 어휘지도 효능감에는 유의미한 차이를 가져왔다. 또한 창의적 교수방법 활용은 영어어휘 산출의 유창성과 다양성 측면에서도 생산적 어휘 활성에 도움을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 예비영어교사의 창의역량 함양을 위한 중등영어교사양성 전공교육과정 운영과 창의성 교육에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of using creative teaching methods in a secondary English teacher education course. In order to develop creativity and creative teaching competencies of pre-service teachers, this study implemented creative teaching methods in an English vocabulary course in a teacher education program. Thirty-three English major students participated in the study for fifteen weeks in an English vocabulary class using creative techniques and cooperative learning activities. The effectiveness of the class was measured through pre-test and post-test questionnaires on the perception of creativity education, attitude toward English vocabulary learning and creative vocabulary teaching, and English vocabulary production tests. Based on the results, it was found that using creative teaching methods enhanced the recognition of creativity education and divergent thinking such as fluency of ideas by pre-service English teachers. Survey results also revealed that using creative methods has positive effects on the English vocabulary learning attitude and the perception of vocabulary teaching efficacy. In addition, using creative teaching methods helped pre-service English teachers’ fluency and diversity in English vocabulary production. Further suggestions and implication have been discussed regarding integration of creative teaching methods in secondary teacher education subject matter courses.
