북한이탈대학생의 대학 교육 경험 탐구

A Study on Learning Experiences of North-Korean Defected-University Students

본 연구는 북한이탈대학생이 대학교에 진학한 후 경험하는 학습 과정을 탐색하고, 그들에게 학습 경험이 어떤 의미가 있는지 그 본질을 탐구하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여, 20~30대 북한이탈대학생 5명과 두 달 간 개별 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 각 면담은 3~4시간 소요되었고, 전사한 면담 자료를 현상학적 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 대학 학습 경험의 구조를 ‘부족한 준비 운동 - 장애물의 방해 - 힘겨운 경주 - 도움닫기’로, 대학 학습 경험의 본질적 의미를 ‘과거의 소망 실현 - 현재에 뿌리내림 - 미래로 향하는 여정’으로 제시하였다. 이는 북한이탈대학생에게 대학의 학습경험이 북한에서의 사회경제적 지위를 극복하고, 이루지 못했던 진학에 대한 욕구를 충족하는 ‘과거의 소망 실현’으로, 한국 사회에 정착하는 ‘현재에 뿌리내림’으로, 한국에서 계속되는 삶의 새로운 시작을 위한 ‘미래로 향하는 여정’으로의 본질적 의미가 있다는 것을 나타낸다. 분석 결과를 토대로 북한이탈대학생의 대학 학습을 지원하기 위한 교육적·정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.

This article explores the structure of North Korean defected-university students’ learning experiences and the essence of the learning experiences as their own perspectives. Five North Korean defected-university students were interviewed. The interview data were analyzed using phenomenological analysis. Based on the analysis, the structure of the college learning experience was suggested as ‘lacking warm-up - obstacles - hard races - doing a run-up’. and the essential meaning of the learning experiences was suggested as ‘realization of past hopes - rooted in the present - journey to the future’, namely the essence of the learning experiences means to overcoming the socio-economic status in North Korea, settlement in Korean Society, and a new beginning of life in Korea. Based on the results of the analysis, this study suggests the educational policies should be established considering the following: establishing a curriculum for the lack of basic education of North Korean defected-university students; developing participatory programs in which North Korean defectors can build relationships within universities; providing continuous career education to connect students with their careers after graduating from college.
