Objectives: This study aims to examine the moderating effect of oral health status on the association between social capital and depression of the elderly. Methods: Analysis was conducted on data from 67,290 elderly individuals above the age of 65 by using raw data from the 2017 Community Health Survey. The data were examined using SPSS WIN 18.0 and the SPSS macro PROCESS. Results: One-generation families were the highest in social capital (2.32) and the lowest in depression (2.20). Elderly individuals living alone scored the highest in depression (3.19) and the lowest in oral health status (2.04). Moreover, analysis using PROCESS indicated that the oral health status had a moderating effect on the association between social capital and depression (β=.2270, BCCI [.2018-.2522]). Conclusions: Oral health status is closely related to depression, and these findings will be used as basic data for the development of mental health promotion programs for the elderly.
