Objective: This research aims to investigate the characteristics of vowels by analyzing the intellectually disabled children’s formant frequency F1, F2, F3, F4. And also, this research is to collect the basic data on the voice of children with intellectual disabilities from the listener’s point of view. Method: Participants are 5 intellectually disabled children(3 of them are in Class 2 and the other 2 children are in Class 3), and there are additional 5 normal children as a control group for comparing each group’s voices. F1, F2, F3, F4 of all children’s voices were analyzed into the average frequency, the standard deviation, and more by using the descriptive statistics, and the differences between each group were examined with the independent t-test(SPSS 22.0). Results: Children with intellectual disabilities were observed to be significantly higher in F1 of /u/(p=.020), F1 of /e/(p=.000), F1 of /o/(p=.003) than normal children. Conclusion: The children with intellectual disabilities narrow their ligaments when vocalizing vowels /u, /e/, and /o/.
