본 연구는 확률과 통계에서 우연의 의미를 고찰하고 이를 통해 확률과 통계 교육을 위한 시사점을 얻는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 인류가 우연을 인식하고, 파악하고, 해석하는 과정 속에서 확률과 통계가 상호협력 관계로 발전하는 과정 및 양상에 대한 조사를 통해 우연 개념에 대한 이해를 넓힐 수 있도록 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 우연의 어원을 비롯해 우연이 어떻게 해석되고 있는지 살펴보고, 우연의 출현이 어떻게 이루어졌는지 알아본다. 이어서 우연과 밀접한 관련이 있는 무작위성 개념이 역사적으로 어떤 아이디어와 결합하면서 발전하는지 조사한다. 그리고 우연의 의미에 대한 이해를 확장하기 위해 통계적 법칙의 아이디어에 이르게 되는 과정에서 우연이 어떠한 역할을 하는지 살펴본다. 이는 우연 현상에 어떻게 주체적으로 대처할 것인가에 대해 좀 더 직접적인 시사점을 제공한다. 마지막으로 확률과 통계 학습을 통해 학생들이 우연 현상에서 주체적으로 대처할 수 있는 능력을 개발할 수 있도록 지원하는 교육적 접근법인 확률의 모델링에 대해 소개하면서 우연의 의미를 교육적 관점에서 살펴본다.

This study looks at the meaning of chance in probabilities and statistics and aims to obtain suggestions for probability and statistical education. First of all, this study broadens the understanding of the concept of chance by examining the processes and aspects of the development of probabilities and statistics in a cooperative relationship as humans perceive, identify, and interpret chance. To do this, we first look at the origin of chance, how it is interpreted, and how the appearance of chance happened. Then, It then investigates what ideas historically developed with the concept of randomness, which is closely related to chance. In order to expand our understanding of the meaning of chance, we will explore chance by exploring the process that leads to the idea of statistical law. This gives a more direct implication on how to deal with chance independently. Lastly, we introduce the modeling of probability, which is proposed as an educational approach that enables students to develop their ability to cope with chance through probability and statistical learning.
