A Study on SME Technology Exchange Promotion for the Entry into Indonesian Market under the Korea New Southern Policy

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to present a plan for SMEs technology exchange and cooperation with Korea, centering on Indonesia, a representative country due to new southern policy. Design/methodology/approach - In this study, we first review the definition of technology exchange, examine recent cooperation between Korea and Indonesia, and then select promising fields of technology cooperation between Korea and Indonesia. As a representative technical cooperation field between Korea and Indonesia, the current status, representative cases, and strategic directions, focusing on the automotive, renewable energy and textile industries, were discussed. Findings - This study found that essential capacity building in the manufacturing sector is required, and that overall support services for the overall management of SMEs should be established rather than simple technology transfer. In addition, in order to strengthen the economic cooperation between SMEs in Korea and Indonesia, it was necessary to spread the Korean model through ODA and KSP programs, to discover the cooperation model, to develop the industry in comparative friendship, and to develop new areas of trade. Research implications or Originality - Finally, the conclusion section suggested a comprehensive implication on ways to expand technology exchange and cooperation with Indonesia.
