허심(虛心)에 기반한 주자 독서의 해체 생성의 구조론

Zhu Xi’s Reading Structure Theory based on Disinterestedness

허심의 관점에서 보면 주자의 독서 구조는 결국 독자의 생각과 언어에 오염되지 않은 절대적이고 순수한 수준의 ‘도리, 자연 이치, 성인의 뜻’을 살려서 맞이하려고 만들어낸 체계, 혹은 코드, 혹은 틀, 혹은 리트머스 형식이다. 이러한 점에서 주자는 구조론자라고 해도 무방할 것 같다. 아마도 주자는 도가와 불가로부터 오염되지 않은 순수 유가적 정신을 계승하고자 이러한 해체와 생성의 순수 구조론의 입장을 견지한 것이 아닌가 싶다. 유가적 정신을 절대 정신으로 고양하고 한민족 고유의 순수성을 회복하고 또 지키고자 한 욕망이 이 구조론을 만들어내게 한 동인이라 해도 무방할 것이다. 절대와 순수의 지식, 절대와 순수의 이념, 절대와 순수의 도리, 성인의 뜻, 자연의 이치를 밝히는 읽기는 그 자체로 전통 상속의 독서로 인정된다. 그러나 오늘날의 삶은 절대성과 총체성이 가두어버린 무수한 가능성과 다양성을 살려내고 모두 함께 그 생명의 가능성으로 살아가는 것을 소중하게 여기는 시대이다. 그러므로 순수한 전통 상속에 주안점이 놓인 주자 독서 구조는 비판(contestation)과 긍정(affirmation)의 상속 또한 가능하게 하는 해체적 읽기의 정신을 수용할 필요가 있다.

From the perspective of disinterestedness, Zhu Xi’s reading structure eventually takes the form of system, code, framework, or litmus. It was created to highlight and embrace “duties, logic of nature, and will of sages” at an absolute and pure level that is not contaminated with readers thoughts and language. In this sense, Zhu Xi can be called a structuralist. It seems that he maintained his position in the pure structural theory of deconstruction and creation in order to inherit a pure Confucian spirit that is not influenced by Taoism or Buddhism. The driving force of his structural theory is his desire to elevate the Confucian spirit to an absolute spirit and restore and maintain the unique purity of the Chinese people. The act of reading to elucidate the knowledge, ideology, and duties of absoluteness as well as the purity, will of sages, and logic of nature can be recognized as the reading of traditional inheritance itself. In contemporary life, however, there is an emphasis on restoring unlimited possibilities and diversity that were once secured by absoluteness, totality, and living according to the possibilities of life all together. Therefore, Zhu Xi’s reading structure, which focuses on the inheritance of pure tradition, must accept the spirit of deconstructive reading that enables the inheritance of contestation and affirmation as well.
