로이드 존스 오순절 성령강림사건에 대한 재고

Review of Lloyd Jones’ Pentecostal Advent

오순절 성령 강림 사건은 구속사적인 접근과 개인적이고 실존적인 접근으로 나누어서 해석할 수 있다. 로이드 존스는 구속사적으로 오순절 사건을 이해하면서 오순절은 단회적 사건이고 영원히 반복되지 않는다고 주장했다가 이후에 개인적인 경험과 실존적인 차원으로 그의 주장을 변경했다. 로이드 존스는 요한복음 20장 22절 “숨을 내쉬며”는 창세기의 인간 창조 기사와 에스겔서의 마른뼈 환상과 비교하면서 다락방 사건과 완전 병행을 이룬다고 주장했다. “성령을 받으라”고 하실 때 제자들은 이미 성령을 받았기에 다락방에서 이미 기독교의 사명을 띠고 있는 교회가 형성되어 있었다고 주장한다. 그로인해 오순절 사건은 이미 형성된 교회에 능력을 주시는 사건이라고 주장하며 능력세례와 연결하고 있다. 오순절 성령 부으심의 사건을 그리스도의 십자가 사건이 객관적 구속의 적용 사건으로 보아야 하지만 로이드 존스는 시공간 안에서의 개인적인 은혜 체험으로 간주했다. 이렇듯 로이드 존스의 오순절 성령강림사건에 관한 그의 후기 견해는 역사적 관점에서 종말의 영으로 오신 성령의 강림은 단회적 사건으로 이해하는 개혁신학의 관점이라기보다는 구원의 서정적 입장에서 택자 개개인에게 구속이 적용되기 때문에 반복되어야 한다는 오순절파 주장과 같은 것이다. 그렇기에 로이드 존스는 오순절파와 같이 성령세례는 곧 능력세례라는 것을 주장하고 있다. 즉, 오순절 성령강림사건으로 본 로이드 존스의 주장은 성령사역의 종말론적인 입장에서 개혁신학과 그 이해가 다름을 알 수 있다.

The event of the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost can be explained through the different approaches of the history of redemption and the personal context. Lloyd-Jones did not insist the repetition of the event of Pentecost but the cessation of it first, because he understood it as the history of redemption, and then after this he changed it into the individual experience and existential aspect. He asserted that John 20:22, “he breathed on them” is parallel with the event of the upper room, by comparing it with the narrative of human creation in the Genesis and the vision of dried bones in the Ezekiel. He maintained that because Jesus’s disciples already received the Holy Spirit when he had said “Receive the Holy Spirit,” the church charged with the Christian mission was already formed there. After thereby he declared that the event of Pentecost was the event which the church already formed was given the power, he connected it with the baptism of the power. Lloyd-Jones considered the event that the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost as the personal experience of grace in time and space, but I think that we should regard it as the event that applied Christ’s objective redemption to individuals, which is the event of Christ s cross. Thus Lloyd-Jones’s later view of the event of the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost is like the Pentecostal claim that the descent of Holy Spirit should be repeated because of the redemption applied to the individual elect from the order of salvation. From a historical point of view, It is different from the Reformed theology of understanding the coming of the Holy Spirit in the spirit of the end as a single event. Hence, According to Lloyd-Jones, like the Pentecost, the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the power baptism. In other words, Lloyd-Jones s view of the Pentecostal Event is different from that of Reformed theology about the eschatological stand of the Holy Spirit.
