A Study on the Cohabitation Relationship between Man and Woman through John Paul Ⅱ s the Nuptial Meaning of the Body

성(性)은 인격을 풍요롭게 해주는 생명의 에너지이며, 관계를 맺는 능력이고, 생명을 낳는 원초적 실재다. 인간은 몸과 영혼이 결합된 하나의 전체로 인간의 몸은 인격적인 몸이다. 인간의 몸은 남성 혹은 여성으로 분화하여 존재하기 때문에, 모든 인격체는 그 깊은 곳에서부터 남성 혹은 여성이다. 이것은 단순히 생물학적, 생리적 차이만이 아니라 각 개인의 경험-자기의식 전체에 관한 것이다. 그러므로 성(性)은 오직 인격이라는 단일한 전체성(unitotality)안에서 통합될 때에만 인간적 가치를 지닌다. 이런 의미에서 몸-인격의 관계는 소유가 아닌 존재의 범주이며 우리는 소유하지 않은 것을 사용하거나 사용하게 할 수 없다. 이 존엄성은 남자와 여자가 인격적 존재로서 우리 자신의 남성성과 여성성은 존중받아야 함을 의미한다. 그 가치를 존중하고 인정하는 것은 오직 전적이고 상호적이며 배타적인 ‘선물’이 되는 것이다. 남자와 여자의 서로 같음과 동시에 서로 다름은 이원성과 상호성의 표지이자 상호 보완성의 표지가 된다. 남녀의 상호보완성은 일치를 지향하며 이것은 사랑을 통해 실현된다. 이때 몸은 사랑을 표현하는 ‘혼인적 의미’를 지닌다. 몸의 혼인적 의미에서 전적으로 내어주는 자기 증여적 사랑은 각 인격체의 전체성을 내포한다. 남자와 여자는 하나됨을 지향하는 결정적이고 되돌릴 수 없는 배타적이고 유일한 관계를 이룬다. 남녀 간 사랑이 전적인 선물이라는 바탕에서 이루어질 때 긍정적인 가치를 지니며, 그 관계는 해소될 수 없고, 그 내재적 동력은 생명을 향한 결합을 이룬다. 이러한 차원에서 동거는 남성과 여성의 내재적 역동과 조화로운 모습에 위배된다. 사랑은 두 인격의 일치이며, 소유가 아닌 내어줌의 사랑은 인간 존재의 본질과 의미를 찾을 수 있게 해준다.

Sexuality is the energy of life that makes the personality abundant, an ability to build relations, and the basic existence that bears lives. Human is a whole combined with body and soul, and human s body is the body of personality. As human s body exists in the division into man or woman, every human being is man or woman from deep inside. It is not just biological/physiological differences, but something about the whole experience/self-consciousness of each individual. Therefore, sexuality has the humane value only when it is integrated witthin a single unitotality of personality. In this aspect, the body-personality relation is the category of existence instead of possession, and we cannot use or allow to use somebody that is not possessed. This dignity means that our own masculinity and femininity should be respected as beings of personality. Respecting and recognizing the value become an only full, mutual, and exclusive ‘gift’. The sameness and difference between man and woman become the sign of duality, reciprocity, and complementarity. The complementarity of man and woman aims for the consonance, which is realized through love. At this time, body has the ‘nuptital meaning’ expressing love. The self-giving love that gives the whole in the nuptital meaning of the body implies the unitotality of each human being. Man and woman build the only decisive, irreversible, and exclusive relationship aiming to be one. The love between man and woman has the positive value only when it is based on the wholehearted gift. The relationship cannot be cancelled, and its internal power forms the combination toward life. In this aspect, the cohabitation is against the harmonious look and internal power of man and woman. Love is the consonance of two personalities. The love of giving out instead of possession shows the essence and meaning of human being.
