The purpose of this study is to summarize the research trends in the field of English education from the 1960s to the present in the Studies in British and American Language and Literature and to further contribute to the development of this field by predicting the direction of English education. First, the field of English education was divided into four sub-categories: language acquisition, textbook development and curriculum development, teaching methods, and then organized in chronological order for each genre. It has changed from theoretical research to experimental research in the field of language acquisition. In the field of textbook development and curriculum development, overall, the study seems to have been done in response to the needs of society such as convergence. In the field of teaching method, it was equally apparent that it has changed from a theoretical study to a communication-oriented one. Since the 2000s, the study has been quantitatively expanded, and the topic has been found to be diverse and professionalism has been enhanced in different areas. In particular, studies dealing with the link between learners and second language learning have made considerable progress. The shift from a instructorcentered to a learner-centered approach reflects the needs of the times. A chronological analysis showed that the research trends grew with the context of the country.
