『사막 교부들의 금언집』 5권 ‘암마 사라’의 이야기와 『안토니우스의 생애』 ‘첫 싸움’ 이야기의 문헌 분석

Textual Analysis of the Story of ‘Amma Sarah’ of Apopothegmata Patrum Chapter V and ‘First struggle’ of the Vita Antonii

성적인 문제는 어느 시대에나 있어왔지만, 특히 오늘날 교회 안에 여러 성적 추문들은 우리에게 큰 아픔을 주고 있다. 이러한 시대적 상황은 성적인 유혹에 맞서 훌륭하게 맞서 싸운 성인들을 더욱 돋보이게 한다. 본고에서는 성적 유혹을 이겨나간 여러 성인들의 이야기 중에서, 『안토니우스의 생애』와 『사막 교부들의 금언집』을 분석하되, 특별히 『생애』의 ‘첫 싸움’ 부분과 『금언집』의 ‘암마 사라’의 이야기를 중심으로 논의를 진행한다. 『생애』에 나타났던 ‘첫 싸움’의 내용은 『금언집』 5장에서 다양하게 계승되어 전개되는데, 무엇보다 암마 사라의 유혹 이야기가 중요하다. 남성과 여성이라는 두 주인공의 성 차이에도 불구하고, 사라의 이야기는 안토니오의 유혹 이야기와 놀라울 정도로 연결점을 가진다. 단어, 구조의 유사성 뿐 아니라, 육체를 가지고 나타나 패배를 시인하는 악마의 모습, 안토니오의 ‘첫 싸움’의 성경 구절의 뜻을 충실히 따르는 사라의 마지막 말까지, 다른 어떤 이야기들보다도 『생애』의 ‘첫 싸움’을 확실하게 계승하고 있다. 우리는 두 이야기를 통해서 유혹이 성별을 떠나 누구에게나 해당되지만, 그리스도의 도움으로 이러한 유혹을 이겨 나갈 수 있음을 이해하게 된다. 성적 일탈의 문제가 교회 안에 큰 슬픔으로 다가오고 있는 오늘날 상황에서 이런 교부들의 모습은 우리에게도 유혹을 극복할 힘이 된다. 어떤 유혹이 다가오더라도, 그 유혹은 결코 이길 수 없는 것이 아니라, 그리스도 안에서 극복해 나갈 수 있다는 것을 잊지 말아야 할 것이다.

Problems related with Sexuality has always been with us throughout the history. But many sexual scandals rising inside the Church nowadays gives serious damage to the Church. In this context, the Saints who fought bravely against sexual seduction, enlightens us with great example. Among the many stories of many Saints who made their triumph over the Sexual seduction, this thesis tries to analyze Vita Antonii and Apophthegmata Patrum, specially focused on the ‘First struggle’ of the Vita and the story of ‘Amma Sarah’ of the Apophthegmata. The contents of the ‘First struggle’ of the Vita is inherited and developed in the Chapter 5 of the Apophthegmata, and the Amma Sarah’s seduction story is the most important among many stories. Despite the sexual difference of Male and Female, the story of Sarah shows remarkable connections with the Anthony’s seduction story. Not only with the likeness of words, and structure between the two, the devil, who appeared with the Physical Body and admits its defeat, Sarah’s last words that faithfully follows the meaning of the Holy Scripture of the ‘First struggle’ of the Vita, the Sarah’s story certainly success the ‘First struggle’ of the Vita. Through the two stories, we can understand that the Sexual seduction applies to all, regardless of sex, with the help of Christ, we can overcome the seduction. Today, sexual scandals seriously threats the Church, but the great example of the Saints gives us strength to overcome the seduction. No matter what kind of seduction approaches, it is never undefeatable, but one must remember that we can overcome with the help of the Christ.
