개화기 유치원교육 연구

The Study of a Kindergarten Education During the Time of Enlightenment

본 연구는 한국의 유치원교육이 본격화되었던 일제강점기 이전 시기인 개화기(1881-1910) 유치원교육에 대해 살펴보았다. 그 결과 개화기에 언론·학회지·교육학 교재 등을 통해 서구의 유치원교육과 제도에 대해 소개되었고, 교육법령과 언론을 통해 한국인을 위한 유치원이 운영되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 먼저 학부에서는 1908년 4월 ｢고등여학교령｣, ｢관립한성고등여학교학칙｣, 1909년 7월 ｢고등여학교령시행규칙｣등을 공포함으로써 유치원교육의 시행을 명문화하였다. 둘째, 1908년 3월 무렵부터 러시아정교회 소속의 선교사 파벨 이바놉스키(1875-1919)가 러시아 공사관 내에서 한국인을 위한 유치원교육을 실시하였다. 셋째, 1908년 11월에 양양군에 있는 현산학교에서 유치과를 설치하여 운영하였다. 넷째, 1909년 3월에 인천사립심상소학교부속유치원은 유치원 운영을 위해 의연금을 받았고, 1910년 밀양시의소에서는 유치원을 설립하여 원아수가 50여명에 달하였다. 다섯째, 1910년 무렵 선교계 사립학교에서는 유치과를 설치하여 운영하였다.

This study was to investigate a kindergarten education during the Time of Enlightenment(1881-1910) before Kindergarten education in Korea was in earnest in Japanese occupation. As a result, we introduced the education and system of kindergartens in the West through the media, academic journals, and educational materials at this time, and confirmed that kindergartens for Koreans were operated through the education statutes and the media. First, the Education Ministry stipulated the implementation of kindergarten education by promulgating the ｢Higher Girl’s School Regulations｣in April 1908, the ｢Regulations for Management of Higher Girl’s School｣and the ｢Rules for Enforcement of Higher Girl’s School｣in July 1909. Second, from around March 1908, Pavel Ivanovsky(1875-1919), a missionary from the Russian Orthodox Church, provided kindergarten education for Koreans within the Russian legation. Third, in November 1908, the kindergarten department was established and operated at Hyunsan School in Yangyang County. Fourth, in March 1909, the Incheon Private Elementary school kindergarten received a pension fund for the operation of the kindergarten, and in 1910, Milyang City Hall established a kindergarten and had 50 children. Fifth, around 1910, the missionary school set up and operated a kindergarten department.
