고대 삼국과 중국 왕조의 사신 왕래와 물자 교류

Exchange of goods and materials between the Three Kingdoms and the Chinese dynasties : Focusing on the Inflow background of the Iron coins found in King Muryeong’s tomb

본고는 고대 삼국과 중국 왕조 간의 사신 왕래와 주요 하사품의 내용 분석에 기초하여 무령왕릉에서 발견된 오수전의 유입 경위를 고찰한 연구이다. 역대 중국 왕조에서는 변경 출입 관리 규정에 따라 귀금속과 화폐 등의 재물은 국외로의 반출을 금지하였다. 따라서 무령왕릉에 부장된 오수전은 백제의 사신이 공식적으로 양으로부터 받아 가져온 것으로 보아야 한다. 문헌 기록에 따르면, 삼국이 중국 왕조와의 사신 왕래를 통해 구득한 물품은 왕의 즉위와 장례를 위한 중국 왕조의 특별 하사품이 가장 많은 비중을 차지한다. 중국 왕조에서는 조서(詔書)와 함께 물품들을 보내기도 하였는데 이는 당시 문물 교류가 사신 왕래를 통해 이루어졌음을 의미한다. 또 삼국에서는 때로 조공 사신을 통해 자국에 필요한 물품을 중국 왕조에 요청하기도 하였다. 이런 점에서 무령왕 사후 양에 파견된 백제 사신들은 무령왕의 장례에 사용할 특정 물품을 표문(表文)으로 요청하였을 것이며, 양 무제는 상장령(喪葬令) 규정에 정해진 부물(賻物)과 함께 백제에서 요청한 특정 품목 역시 하사하였을 것으로 이해할 수 있다.

This study analyzed how the five-zhu coins(五銖錢) made of iron found in King Muryeong s tomb entered the Baekje kingdom as a result of material exchanges that took place between the Three Kingdoms and the Chinese dynasties. In the traditional Chinese dynasties, the identities and belongings of those who crossed the borders were inspected. Precious metals and money, in particular, were prohibited from being carried out of the country. Taking this into consideration, it is understood that the Baekje obtained the five-zhu coins buried in King Muryeong s tomb from the Liang(梁) dynasty through diplomatic envoys. According to literature records, the Three Kingdoms received the largest amount of goods from the Chinese dynasties, including special gifts during the coronation and funeral of the king. Chinese dynasties also sent a list of items on a separate sheet as part of the Emperor s statement, although not recorded in the historical literature. In addition to this, the Three Kingdoms sometimes sent messengers to the Chinese dynasties asking for goods they needed, and received various items this way as well. It can be inferred from this that after the death of King Muryeong, Baekje s messengers who were dispatched to the Liang dynasty would have requested certain items, including the five-zhu coins, at the time of the King’s funeral. In addition to the conventional funeral gifts, the emperor of the Liang dynasty may have also given certain other items requested by Baekje s messengers.
