The Pacific Islands have emerged as a new area of interest in recent years in terms of power relations. Hence, this paper analyzes how the dynamics between China and Taiwan, which are referred to as Cross-Strait relations, are working in this region. In conflict with the Taiwanese government s position on national identity and the Chinese government s policy principles, China is using diplomatic means as a way to pressure Taiwan. In this process, the rivalry between the two sides, which had been in a diplomatic truce for some time, is being reproduced around the Pacific Islands. Therefore, this study takes focus on China s Pacific Island policy in terms of the pursuit of Taiwan’s international isolation and draws its implications. In conclusion, the authors argue that the future direction of China’s policy in the region is likely to depend on Taiwanese political choice, since its Taiwanese isolation policy there is driven by Taiwanese factors rather than Chinese internal factors.
