두 오각수의 차에 관한 연구

A Research on Difference of Two Pentagonal Numbers

본 연구는 중학교 학생들을 대상으로 수행한 R&E의 결과를 바탕으로 이루어졌다. 다각수란 정다각형과 그 내부에 점들을 일정한 간격으로 배열하였을 때, 그 점들의 개수로 나타나는 수들이다. 특히, 정오각형으로부터 나타나는 다각수를 오각수라고 한다. 본 논문에서는 어떤 자연수가 두 오각수의 차로 나타나는지, 나타나면 몇 가지의 서로 다른 표현을 갖는지에 대해 연구하였다.

This research is based on the result of R&E which has been studied with middle school students. A polygonal number is the number that can be represented by a regular geometrical arrangement of equally spaced points. If the arrangement forms a regular pentagon, the number is called a pentagonal number. In this paper, we determine what numbers can be expressed as the difference of two pentagonal numbers, and how many different expressions the numbers have.
