월성 해자출토 곰뼈의 이용과 폐기에 대한 시론

On the usage and discarding of bear (Ursus sp) bones excavated from Wolseong moat site

월성 해자유적에서는 다양한 동물유체가 확인되고 있다. 대부분은 가축에 해당하는 동물이고 야생동물의 출토 수량은 적은 편이다. 가축이 주를 이루는 동물유체의 구성 중에서 곰의 출토는 주목되는 점이다. 삼국시대 흔히 출토되는 야생동물인 사슴과 달리 곰의 출토는 특수한 목적을 가졌을가능성이 있다. 이를 추정하기 위해서 곰의 출토 사례와 문헌 속의 곰의 이용에 대해서 살펴본 바 곰의 가죽을 이용한 사례가 확인된다. 실제로 이용한 가죽 부위와 출토되는 뼈 부위가 일치하고 있다. 이는 가죽을이용하기 위해서 곰을 가져왔을 가능성이 있다. 그리고 뼈에 남은 해체 흔적을 통해 반입한 곰은 월성의 근처에서 해체작업을 진행하고 가죽으로 만들었을 가능성이 있다. 현재까지 월성 주변의 유적에서는 미상의 소결된 수혈이 다수 존재하고 있으며 계림과 월성 해자에서도 제철과 관련된 유구 및 도가니와 같은 유물이 출토되고 있다. 이는 월성의 주변에 공방과 관련된 시설이 존재했을 가능성을 보여주고 있다. 그리고 왕실 관련의 공방시설이 문헌 기록 속의 관청과 어떠한 관련성이 있을지를 추후 고찰해 본다면 월성을 중심으로 한 관청의 배치를 엿볼 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

Various animal remains have been identified in the Wolseong moat site. In this site, domesticates comprise most of the excavated remains while the number of wild animals is relatively small. As such, the existence of Ursus sp. is noteworthy. Unlike the case of Cervus commonly found in the Three Kingdoms period sites, the existence of Ursus sp. in the site could indicate a specific purpose the species. To illustrate the purpose of Ursus sp., case studies of excavated Ursus sp. and literature research related to bear use were conducted. Hide production with Ursus sp. was identified. As the parts of Ursus sp. remains from the site are consistent with the parts used for leather in the literature, it is quite possible that Ursus sp. was used for hide. Ursus sp. would have been brought to the site, to be dismantled and processed for hide-production near the Wolseong site. The production unit near the Wolseong site is assumed to be in operation for supplying specific products for the royal court, unlike the production units for intensive and mass production during the Three Kingdoms period. To date, a large number of pits of unknown function with burning soil have been found in the vicinity of Wolseong, with artefacts related to production facilities such as crucibles and iron manufacturing site, showing the possibility of the existence of production facilities around Wolseong. Future research on the relations between the production facilities for the royal court and the production government illustrated in the literature will illuminate the placement of governments with Wolseong at the center.
