La Nuit du August 4th: Agenda making of the French Revolution

1789년 8월 4일 밤 프랑스의 제헌국민의회는 프랑스 혁명이 해결해야 할 과제로, 봉건제 폐지, 성직자와 귀족의 특권, 도시, 지방, 단체의 특권 폐지 등 구체제의 적폐를 청산할 것을 결의했다. 이는 7월 14일 바스티유 함락에 뒤이어 나타난 지방 도시와 농촌의 반란으로 회복 불가능하게 붕괴된 구체제의 폐허 위에 신체제의 기틀을 마련하고, 그 위에서 혁명이 나아갈 방향을 제시하고 구체적으로 개혁 과제를 설정한 것이다. 물론 이를 법제화하는 과정에서 애초의 약속을 수정하거나 취소하는 일들이 벌어져 여러 정파들 사이에 갈등과 대결이 벌어지는 등 우여곡절을 겪었지만, 8월 4일 밤의 선언이 프랑스의 갱생을 위한 신체제 건설의 출발점이었다.

In the night of August 4th, 1789, the French National Assembly cleared away deep-rooted evils of the Old regime, the feudal regime, privileges of noble and clergy, particular rights of cities, provinces and corporations. Establishing the New regime on the ruins of the Old regime after the taking of the Bastille on July 14, the Assembly determined the direction of the Revolution and made up its agenda. The legislation process caused some amendments or revisions of the original decisions, due to the oppositions and conflicts between the political parties, but the declaration of the night was a starting point for the regeneration of France.(Chungnam National University)
