『퇴계집』 간행 과정에 담긴 교육적 함의

『퇴계집』은 퇴계 사후 30년에 걸쳐 만들어졌다. 『퇴계집』의 초간본 간행 과정은 정확한 내역은 알 수 없지만 현재 남아 있는 간접 자료들을 통해 그 경위를 유추해볼 수 있다. 문집 간행 과정에서 월천 조목과 서애 유성룡을 중심으로 편집 원칙에 따른 갈등이 나타났다. 전고수록의 편집 원칙을 지닌 월천 조목과 산절 수록의 편집 원칙을 지닌 서애 유성룡의 갈등은 그들의 삶과도 연관이 되어 있다. 『퇴계집』의 간행과정에 나타나는 입장 차이는 문화전수로서의 교육의 역할을 생각해봤을 때 전고 수록의 원칙이 더욱 교육적 가치를 지닌다. 또한 정치적 배경으로 문집 작업이 어려웠던 점을 고려하면 정치와 교육의 관계를 우리에게 시사한다. 퇴계집의 간행과정에서의 한계점은 분명하다. 갈등으로 인해 완성도가 떨어지는 초간본을 급하게 인쇄하였으며 문집 작업이 퇴계의 사상을 발전시키는 역할을 하지 못하고 학파간의 분화를 초래하였다.

The process of publication of the first edition of the “Retreatment Collection” is not known exactly, but it can be inferred from the remaining indirect data. In the process of publishing a collection of books, conflicts appeared according to the principles of editing. The conflict between Jo Mok, who has the editorial principle of the full document, and Yoo Seong-ryong, who has the editorial principle of the summary, is also related to their lives. The difference in position in the publishing process of the “Retreatment Collection” is that the principle of recording is more educational value considering the role of education as a cultural transmission. In addition, considering the difficulties in writing a book based on the political background, it suggests the relationship between politics and education. The limitations in the publishing process of 『Toegyejib』 are clear. Due to the conflict, the first draft of the less-completed version was printed urgently, and the collection of books did not play a role in developing the idea of Toegye and caused differentiation between schools.
