The Modern Meaning of the Millenium in the Book of Revelation

요한계시록 1장 1절에 나타나는 ἃ δεῖ γενέσθαι ἐν τάχει는 20장 1-10절에 나타나는 천년왕국을 이해하는 열쇠어이다. 천년이란 수는 실제의 수가 아니라, 고난 속에서 살아가지만 하나님의 통치에 참여하도록 초청하는 장치이다. 20장 6절에 나타나는 τà χíλια ἔτη는 하나님의 절대적인 통치가 미치는 영역이다. 천년이란 수는 하나님 안에서의 평화와 구원의 완결성을 드러내는 수이다. 요한계시록 20장 7-10절은 ‘최후의 싸움’에서 사탄의 세력이 궁극적으로 파멸되고 악이 정벌된다. 이 최후의 전쟁에서 사탄의 세력은 완전히 파멸되고 하나님이 완전한 승리를 거두신다. 요한은 “이 두루마리의 예언의 말씀을 지키는 자는 복이 있으리라”(계22:7)고 했다. 거대한 역사의 물줄기 속에 처해 있는 현대 한국교회는 바른 종말 신앙으로 신앙적인 박해와 세속주의의 도전 속에서 종말 신앙을 바르게 지켜야 한다. 나아가 ἔρχομαι ταχύ(계 22:7)라고 하신 예수의 음성을 기억하고 묵묵히 새 하늘과 새 땅을 희망하는 것이 역사 속에 처한 신자의 바른 종말 신앙이다. 천년왕국에 대한 바른 이해를 통하여 올바른 역사의식과 신앙에 대한 바른 시각을 가질 수 있다.

ἃ δεῖ γενέσθαι ἐν τάχει in Book of Revelation 1:1 is the keyword for understanding the Millennialism in 20:1-10. The millennial number is not a real number, but a device that invites the saints to participate in God’s Reign even in the life of suffering. τà χíλια ἔτη is the Realm of God’s Absolute Rule. The millennium is the number that reveals the completeness of peace and salvation in God. In Revelation 20:7-10, Satan’s power is ultimately destroyed, and evil is conquered in the “Armageddon”. In this final war, Satan’s power is completely destroyed, and God wins with a perfect victory. John said, 22:7 “Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book”(Rev 22:7). Modern Korean churches, which are in the midst of a great stream of history, must keep the Second Coming faith right in the face of religious persecution and secularism with the correct Apocalyptic faith. Furthermore, remembering the voice of Jesus who said ἔρχομαι ταχύ (Rev 22:7) and silently hoping for a new heaven and a new earth is the correct Eschatology of believers in history. A proper understanding of the Millennialism will give you a proper view of historical perspective and faith.
