Purpose – The purpose of this study is to introduce the characteristics and significance of Jeju-type wellness therapy „Nogorogi‟, and to find a more effective acupressure therapy method by revealing the difference in pain sensitivity according to the pressure direction of the acupressure therapy. Research design, data, and methodology – The researcher selected 17 randomly selected female subjects from the students of A sports center in Jeju city. In this study, the Jeju-type massage „Nogorogi‟ was focused on women with high sensitivity because they focused on giving a comfortable feeling. In particular, the study participants explained the purpose and method of research and collected the final analysis data. The statistical analysis in this study used SPSS 19.0 program and SmartPLS 3.0. Results – In this study, the age range was 26 to 55 years, with an average age of 39 years. In addition, height, weight, waist size and corresponding body mass index (BMI) were measured. As a result of analysis, the pressure threshold is smaller than 1, so the center pressure threshold is smaller than the navel pressure threshold. These results suggest that the „Nogorogi‟ massage needs to be favored with a central tenderness threshold in terms of painless and comfortable massage. Also, as in the analysis conducted in this study, it was confirmed that there is no difference in the ratio of the tenderness threshold between the left and the right. These results show that „Nogorogi‟ massage needs to be done regardless of the left and right side. Conclusions – In terms of implications, these results need to be done according to the personal physical characteristics of the subject, and especially in women, the ratio of right tenderness threshold is confirmed. In this study, however, further analysis should be performed on the root cause of the influence of the individual s physical characteristics on the right side only. Considering the increasing demand for well-being and wellness tourism in the future, we hope this study will be an opportunity to inform the necessity of establishing basic theory for the professionalism of numerous massage and acupressure practitioners in the wellness tourism industry on Jeju Island.
