출토 철기 유물의 보호를 위한 방청필름 적용성 연구

Applicability study of Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor Films for protection of excavated iron objects

출토된 철기 유물은 땅에서 나온 순간부터 부식이 진행되므로 적절한 재료 및 방법을 이용하여 보존처리 전까지 최대한 보호해야 한다. 현재 발굴현장에서 출토된 철기유물의 보호를 위해 알루미늄 호일 혹은 비닐 랩에 싸서 보관하거나 플라스틱 밀폐상자에 보관한다. 이러한 방법들은 철기유물의 1차적인 보호에 유용한 방법들이나 더욱 효과적인 보호를 위해 기화성방청제가 포함된 방청필름의 기능성 및 적용성 평가를 실시하였다. 금속시편에 방청필름 및 폴리에틸렌 필름을 감싸고 염수분무시험을 실시한 후, 실험 전·후 각 시편의 색도, 접촉각 및 표면에너지, 표면저항을 측정하여 방청필름 효과를 비교하였다. 또한 금속시편을 흙 속에 매장한 후 방청필름으로 밀폐하여 기화성방청제의 토양 투과성을 평가하였다. 방청필름 사용 시 전반적으로 큰 변화가 나타나지 않은 반면 폴리에틸렌 필름을 사용한 경우 시편 표면에 부식화합물이 발생함에 따라 색도차가 관찰되었고, 접촉각이 감소하여 표면에너지가 증가하는 결과를 보였다. 표면저항 역시 크게 증가하여 표면 부식으로 인한 변화를 확인하였다. 토양 투과성 평가 결과, 방청필름 적용 시 표면의 색도 및 접촉각, 표면에너지의 변화는 없었으나 표면저항이 증가하여 표면 부식에 대한 저항성을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과들을 통해 방청필름이 출토 철기유물의 보호에 효과적임을 확인하였다.

Since the excavated iron objects are corroded from the moment it comes from the ground, it must be protected using proper materials and methods until the conservation treatment. To protect the excavated iron objects in generally, they were wrapped in aluminium foil or polyvinyl wrap and were kept in plastic case. These methods are useful for the primary protection iron objects. Nevertheless, for more effective protection it was evaluated that functionality and applicability of VCI films containing VCI. After wrapping the VCI film and polyethylene film in the metal sample for the salt spray test, we compared anti-corrosion effect by measuring the chromaticity, contact angle, surface energy and surface resistance. To evaluate the soil permeability of VCI, metal samples were buried in the soil. When VCI film was used, sample s surface was not changed generally. There was slight change in chromaticity as the corrosion compound occurred on the surface of the sample. When the polyethylene film was used, surface energy decreased as the contact angle decreased. The surface resistance also increased significantly, we confirmed the change caused by the surface corrosion. As a result of soil permeability test, it was not confirmed significant change through the visual observation and chromaticity. There was little difference in the contact angle and surface energy. But it was confirmed resistance to corrosion of surface as the surface resistance increases. The results showed that the VCI film was effective in protecting the iron object excavated from the site.
