문산 김삼룡선생과 익산문화권의 연구

A Study on Munsan Samryong Kim and Iksan Cultural Area

이 글은 2014년 5월 6일 석가탄신일에 돌아가신 문산 김삼룡 선생의 1주기를 맞이하여 선생이 남기신 학문적 업적과 사회문화계에 기여한 공로를 기리기 위한 것이다. 문산 김삼룡 선생은 원광대학교 총장과 원불교 학과 교수, 마한백제문화연구소장 등을 역임하면서, 학교발전과 지역사회발전, 백제사를 통한 지역의 역사문화 연구에 노력하였으며, 그러한 노력은 <익산문화권의 연구>, <한국 미륵신앙의 연구> 등의 연구업적으로 이어졌고, 미륵사지 등의 중요 문화유적과 <관세음응험기>에 근거하여 백제 무왕대에 익산으로 천도하였다는 ‘익산천도설’을 피력하였다. 특히 1973년 10월 마한백제문화연구소의 초대 소장으로 부임한 후, <미륵사지 발굴조사>, <왕궁리유적 발굴조사>, <오금산성 발굴조사> 등 익산의 중요 문화유적에 대한 조사와 연구에 큰 성과를 거두어, 오늘날 미륵사지와 왕궁리유적 등 익산의 백제왕도문화유산의 세계문화유산 등재가 추진될 수 있는 학술적 토대를 마련하였다. 문산 김삼룡선생의 생애와 사상적 편력은 <익산문화권의 연구>에서 비롯하여 <한국미륵신앙의 연구>로 결말을 맺고 있으며, 선생의 한평생이 지역문화사랑, 그 자체였다고 할 것이다.

This article is dedicated to the late Munsan Samryong Kim on the occasion of the first anniversary of his decease on May 06, 2014, Buddha s Birthday, in commemoration of his outstanding scholarly achievements and contributions in the social and cultural circles. Throughout his successive holding of various posts such as president of Wonkwang University, professor at the Department of Won-Buddhism Science, director of Mahan-Baekje Cultural Research Institute, etc., Munsan Samryong Kim had devoted himself to the progress of the university and local community as well as to the studies on the local culture with a focus on the history of the Baekje Kingdom. His devoted efforts were met with great research records including <A Study on Iksan Cultural Area.>, <A Study on Maitreya Faith in Korea>, etc. It should be particularly noted that he asserted the transfer of Baekje s capital to Iksan which took place during the reign of King Mu on the basis of major cultural relics including the remains of Mireuk Temple site and <the records of Kwanseumeungheumgi (觀世音應驗記)>. Since his inauguration as the first director of Mahan-Baekje Cultural Research Institute in October 1973, he continued to win great success in researches and studies on many cultural relics in Iksan as shown in the articles including <Excavation Research of Mireuk Temple Site>, <Excavation Research of Wanggung-ri Relics>, <Excavation Research of Ogeum Mountain Fortress>, etc. only to name a few. It was he who laid academic foundation for pushing ahead this day of applying for inscription of cultural heritages of the Baekje Kingdom in Iksan as the capital city such as Mireuk Temple site and Wanggung-ri relics as the world cultural heritages. The life and ideological career of Munsan Samryong Kim began with <A Study on Iksan Cultural Area> and ended up with <A Study on Maitreya Faith in Korea>, meaning that the whole span of his life itself represented his deep love for local culture.
