백제사 속의 익산에 대한 재조명

Review of Iksan Province in Baekje(百濟) History

『觀世音應驗記』의 익산 천도 기록은『삼국사기』와『삼국유사』를 비롯해서 地理誌에 이르기까지 기존의 익산 관련 문헌들을 광범위하게 일대 재점검하는 계기가 되었다. 그와 맞물려 1970년대 이래 활발하게 진행된 彌勒寺址와 王宮坪城 및 雙陵 등의 익산 지역 백제 유적 발굴은 한층 힘을 얻었다. 동시에 그러한 발굴 성과는 익산 천도 기록을 검증하는 기제로 작용하였다. 익산지역은 정치한 문헌적인 연구와 더불어 발굴 성과에 힘입어 백제 王都였음을 부정하기는 어렵게 되었다. 오랜 기간에 걸쳐 신념을 가지고 꿋꿋하게 연구에 매진하신 문산 김삼룡 선생님의 업적임은 누구도 부인할 수 없다. 백제인들이 理想鄕으로 여겼기에 金馬를 가리키는 枳慕蜜地에는 그리워하는 樂土의 뜻이 담겨 있음을 밝혀냈다. 게다가 필자는 사비도성과 익산 도성은 2개의 王都로서 대등하게 기능하였음을 구명하였다. 그러한 결정적인 또 하나의 근거가 宮南池의 소재지가 된다. 현재 부여 읍에 소재한 假稱 ‘宮南池’는 백제 때 궁남지가 아닌 것으로 밝혀졌다.

Record about Removal of the Capital City to Iksan of 『Kwanseumhungheumgi(觀世音應驗記)』 led to recheck widely existing literature on Iksan, including 『The Chronicles of the Three States(三國史記)』, 『The Heritage of the Three States (三國遺事)』, and geography. And active excavation works on Iksan since 1970s, such as Mireuksaji(彌勒寺址), Wanggungpyeongsung(王宮坪城), and the Twin Tombs(雙陵), gained power with the record. At the same time the outcome of excavation acted as verifying the record of Removal of the Capital City to Iksan. It became hard to deny that Iksan province was a capital of Baekje according to literature studies and excavation results. Also no one can deny this is from Munsan(文山) Kim Samryong who had strived to study holding a belief for a long time. He traced the meaning of Jimomilji(枳慕蜜地), which indicates Gold Horses(金馬), an utopia for Baekje people. They missed the land of the blessed, a paradise. Further, I found that Sabi castle and Iksan castle had functioned evenly as two capitals. The decesive ground is the location of Gungnamji(宮南池). Now Gungnamji(宮南池), a tentative name in Buyeo region proved not to be that of Baekje period.
