‘교회와 세상’에 관한 소고 - H. U. von Balthasar 신학을 통한 성찰 -

현시대를 사는 우리에게 ‘교회와 세상’은 때때로 어울릴 수 없는 두 가지의 공간으로 인식된다. 폰 발타살 역시 ‘교회와 세상’은 두 가지 실체인가, 하나가 될 수 있는 가능성은 없는가라는 질문에서 스스로의 신학을 성찰해간다. 지금의 세상은 마치 교회를 박해하고 있는 듯하고, 교회는 아무 죄도 없이 그런 세상을 버티며 살아가고 있는 듯하다. 지금의 세상을 살아가는 사람들에게 교회의 가치는 점점 사라져가고, 교회 역시 세상 때문에 피곤해 보인다. 하지만 교회는 어느 때고 힘을 읽거나, 사라질 염려 없이 지금까지 굳건히 존재하고 있다. 다만 그 교회가 간직하여 ‘기억’하여야 할 것들에 대한 성찰은 절대적으로 필요하다. 그 ‘기억’이 잊지 말고 전해야 할 ‘전통’ 또한 매우 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 이러한 사실을 바탕으로 폰 발타살은 우리에게 중요한 사실을 지적하여 깨닫게 한다. 하느님이 창조 때부터 마주하고 있었던 구원의 대상은 ‘교회’가 아닌, ‘세상’이라는 것이다. 현시대를 사는 사람들이 ‘교회와 세상’을 구분하듯, 폰 발타살 역시 그 구분을 뚜렷이 한다. 하느님의 구원 대상을 명확하게 하기 위해서이다. 하지만 그 나뉨에는 함께 공유할 수 있는 것이 분명히 존재한다. 다름 아닌 예수 그리스도의 삶을 ‘기억’하여 ‘전통’으로 간직해야 한다는 사실이다. 그 ‘기억’과 ‘전통’의 이어짐 없이는 현시대가 내어놓는 발전과 다양한 사고들에 의해 불안할 수밖에 없는 세상과 교회일 수밖에 없다는 사실 때문이다. 자칫 지금의 교회는 교회 그 자체를 위해 설립된 것 같지만, 사실 교회는 세상이 간직해야 할 것들을 위해 마련되었다. 이러한 폰 발타살의 신학적 성찰은 “세상과 함께 하느님의 미래를 마주하기 위해 노력해야하는 교회”에 관한 반성이며, 하느님이 이 세상을 창조하여 사랑함은 ‘교회’를 위해서가 아니라, ‘세상’과 우리 모두를 위해서라는 사실을 깨닫기 위한 여정이다.

To the people living in this era, it is recognized that ‘the Church and the World’ are two different spaces where cannot get along with, from time to time. Von Balthasar also thinks about seriously through these two questions in his theology; The Church and the World are two different true natures? Is there any possibility to be one? This world seems to persecute the Church; the Church seems to endure such a world without having any sins. To the people who are living in this world, the value of the Church is gradually disappearing, and the Church also seems to be tired because of the world. But the Church exists any time firmly until now, without losing her power and fear to be disappeared. Simply, it is strictly needed the introspection on the things that the Church keeps and ‘remember’. And also the ‘tradition’ that the remembrance should hand down also has important meaning. Based on such a fact, von Balthasar pointed out the important fact or let us realizes that the salvation object from the Creation is not ‘the World’ but ‘the Church. Like the modern people divide “the Church and the World”, von Balthasar also clearly divided it. That is to clarify the object of God. But in that division, there surely exists the thing that cannot share together. That is the fact to ‘remember the life of Jesus Christ and keep it as a ‘tradition’. Without that connection of ‘remembrance’ and ‘tradition’, it is true that the Church and the World should be anxious by the modern world development and its various thoughts. The current Church seems to be established for the Church herself, but the Church is prepared for the things that the World should keep. Such an introspection of von Balthassar is the self-reflection on “The trying Church to face the future of God with the World”. And also it is the journey to realize the fact that God’s Creation and His Love is not for ‘the Church’ but for ‘the World and all of us’.
