미디어 분석과 비평적 글쓰기를 활용한 대학생들의 미디어 리터러시 교육 방안 연구

Method for education of media literacy for college students utilizing media analysis and critical writing

리터러시의 개념이 과거에는 단순히 글을 읽고 쓸 줄 아는 능력으로 한정되었다면 최근 리터러시의 의미는 이보다 확장된 개념으로 받아들여지고 있다. 이는 정보 통신 기술이 발달하면서 다양한 미디어가 등장했고 이를 통해 끊임없이 새로운 메시지들이 쏟아져 나오기 때문이다. 이제는 넘쳐나는 메시지에 때로는 가짜 정보까지 더해지는 상황에서 더 이상은 수동적 수용자로 미디어 메시지들을 받아들여서는 안 된다. 따라서 원하는 미디어를 선택하고 이를 활용할 줄 알며, 미디어 메시지를 분석하여 이해할 수 있어야 한다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 자기화한 새로운 메시지를 생성하고 표현함으로써 사회에 능동적으로 참여할 줄 아는 능력을 길러야 한다. 이를 위해 이 논문에서는 대학생을 대상으로 한 미디어 리터러시 교육 방안을 연구하였다. 특히 미디어 리터러시 교육의 수업 모형을 마련하고 단계 별 활동 내용을 살펴본 점, 미디어 리터러시 교육에서 핵심을 이루는 분석과 생성 과정에 대해서는 대학생들의 실제 교수 학습 방안 사례를 제시했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

The concept of literacy in the past was limited to simply the ability to read and write. Recently, the meaning of the literacy has been extended much wider because of the emergence of the new media from the development of information and communication technology, and abundance of new messages through such new platforms. In the era of overflowing messages, some of which are even fake news, the media messages should not be accepted as they are in a passive manner. The media should be well-selected and utilized, and the media messages need to be analyzed and understood. Furthermore, based on the understood messages, the ability to engage actively in the society needs to be improved by self-creating new messages and expressing them. To this end, this paper studies the method to improve media literacy for college students. The paper discussed the model class for media literacy and multi-step activities. The paper then suggested an example for the class activity for college students on the analysis and creation process, which are core activities in the media literacy education.
