Effect of Craniosacral Therapy on Physical and Psychological Stress in Middle-Aged Women

  • 104

The purpose of this study aims to identify the impact of craniosacral therapy as a stress management and reduction technique for middle-aged women who may suffer physical and psychological stress. To achieve this, 20 middle-aged women complaining of stress were randomly assigned to an experiment and control group, 10 for each, and the experiment was conducted twice a week for 4 weeks, a total of 8 times. With sympathetic nerve activity (LF) as objective data, there was a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) between the two groups. The difference between the two groups did not appear (p>0.05) in parasympathetic nerve activity (HF) and sympathetic nerve activity (LF/HF), but after 8 sessions of the experiment, significance could be found in the numerical changes. Regarding changes of physical resistance (SDNN) as objective data, there appeared a statistically significant difference (p<0.05); in physical stress, there appeared a statistically significant difference (p<0.005); in psychological stress, there was a statistically significant difference (p<0.05); and in changes of visual analogue scale (VAS), there was a statistically significant difference (p<0.001). As a result, it was found that in the experiment group that received craniosacral therapy, there was a more significant change than prior to the experiment, while in the control group, there was no significant change. This suggests that craniosacral therapy was effective for relieving physical and psychological stress and thus could be used as a remedy for physical homeostasis.
