Current Cosmetologist Training Programs and Trainees’ Satisfaction

  • 152

In modern society, where the influence of mass media continues to grow, the boundary between experts and the general public is blurring. With the growth and development of the cosmetology industry, people have rapidly acquired technical knowledge through diverse media. Under these circumstances, cosmetologists are required to build the skills to catch and follow the latest trends earlier than the general public. Hence, professional and systematic cosmetologist training is essential, and there has been a rising demand for high-quality training programs. This study attempted to provide basic data for the development of cosmetologist training programs. For this, a survey on current training programs and trainees’ satisfaction was performed among 300 beauty salon workers. For this, beauty salons were divided into sole proprietorships and franchises. In general, the matter was more systematic and more organized than the former in terms of training programs. When asked about problems in the training programs, ‘poor quality’ was most responded (38.6%: sole proprietorship, 34.2%: franchise chain). In training at work as well, ‘curriculum’ was the highest (48.7%: sole proprietorship, 43.0%: franchise chain). Therefore, it is reasonable to say that a high-quality training program is necessary for all beauty salon workers regardless of workplace classification.
