바람직한 교양교육 기관의 요건과 유형

Model Development for the Institution of General Education

현재 우리 대학의 교양교육의 형태는 통일되어 있지 않고 다양하다. 우선 교양교육 담당 기구의 명칭이 교양교육원(혹은 기초교육원)으로서 대학 본부 조직의 하나로 기능하도록 조직되어 있는 경우가 있고, 또 하나는 교양학부형태로 이루어져 있음을 알 수 있다. 후자의 경우 많은 대학들이 학교의 설립 이념에 따라 독자적 이름이 붙여진 교양교육 형태를 갖고 있다. P대학의 사례에서 살펴보았지만 교양교육원은 전문적인 기구여야 하고 그것을 관리하는 원장(혹은 학부장)은 학교조직의 최고회의인 교무위원 급이 되어야 한다. 이것이 축소되거나 또는 바람직하지 못한 방향으로(이를테면 두루뭉술하게 다른 여타 기구와 구별되지 않거나, 특히 기획처, 교무처의 하부조직으로 들어간다든지)으로 나아가게 되면, 교양교육이 강화되어야 하는 현시점에 역행하게 된다는 것을 염두에 두어야 할 것이다.

The current form of general education in the university is not unified but diverse. First, some general education institutes under the name of the Institut of General Education(or Institut of Basic Education) are organized to function as one of the university headquarters organization, whereas others consist of Faculty of General Education. In the latter case, many universities have their own form of general education with a unique name in accordance with the idea for the establishment of the university. As we saw in case of P university, the institute of general education should be operated professionally and the director(or dean) who is charge of the institute should be a member of academic board of the supreme council in the university organization. The institute of general education should be separated from other organizations. If the institute of general educations are downsized or go undesirable direction(for instance, it is not distinguished from other organizations, particularly, it is got into the subsystem of planning division or educational service division), it will go against the present point when general education should be strengthened.
