비판적 사고 기반 학술적 글쓰기의 매체론적 배경과 교육 모형 비교 고찰

A study on the background of ‘academic writing based on critical thinking’ in terms of theory of media and the comparison of education models

최근의 학술적 글쓰기 교육의 커다란 특징은 그것이 비판적 사고에 기반한다는 점이다. 그런데 왜 학술적 글쓰기가 비판적 사고에 기반해야 할까? 그 이유는 ‘학문적 의사소통’의 주된 양식으로 글쓰기 과정에서 추상적, 반성적, 분석적, 논리적 사고 성향이 강화되는데 이 성향들은 이른바 ‘비판적 사고’를 형성하는 요소적 사고 성향들이기 때문이다. 이점에서 학술적 글쓰기는 비판적 사고의 과정이면서 동시에 결과라고 할 수 있다. 그렇다면 이와 같이 내적으로 연결된 비판적 사고력과 학술적 글쓰기 능력을 동시에 함양할 수 있는 효과적 교육 방법은 무엇일까? 필자는 ‘비판적 사고에 기반한 텍스트 독해와 작문 과정(CRW)’을 그 방법으로 제안하였다. 대안이 될 만한 세 가지 CRW 모형들을 제시하고, 이들을 비판적 사고력과 글쓰기 능력의 동시 함양 가능성 그리고 효과적 교육 방법의 관점에서 비교 고찰하였다. 그리고 이를 토대로 바람직한 학술적 글쓰기 방법론의 방향을 모색하였다.

A predominant feature currently in academic writing education is that it emphasizes its ground on critical thinking. Thus, the relevant question is raised. why should critical thinking be a basis for academic writing? The reason for this is that several elements of critical thinking propensity get reinforced in academic writing as a form of ‘academic communication’: abstract thinking, reflective thinking, analytic thinking, and logical thinking, which consist in the whole ‘critical thinking.’ In this regard, academic writing is a kind of process of critical thinking, simultaneously a consequence from it. The correlation between academic writing and critical thinking leads us to establish several proper models for a method of writing education. It is widely acceptable that a consideration on ‘Critical Reading and Writing(CRW)’ based on critical thinking is a plausible way to develop writing ability. I examine three alternative CRW models as strong candidates and then compare and contrast them in terms of ‘co-cultivation of critical thinking and writing ability’ and ‘an efficient education method.’ Furthermore, I draw my own framework in reference to them so as to be a desirable academic writing methodology.
