교양교육으로서의 다문화교육강좌 개발에 관한 실행연구

Action Research on Development of Multicultural education class as a liberal education at University Level-With a focus upon Diasporic experience, reflection, and expression

이 연구는 이제까지 대학에서의 다문화교육 논의가 예비교사들을 대상으로 한 다문화교육에 제한되어 있다는 점, 이주민들의 체험을 소수자담론과 괴리시켜 보아서는 안 된다는 점을 비판하며, 이주민들과 일반 소수자들 간의 ‘중첩된 체험’으로서 ‘디아스포라적 체험’을 새롭게 개념화하고 이를 직접적·간접적으로 체험하고 자신의 삶 속에서 찾아보고 그 체험의 사회문화적 맥락을 분석하여 성찰하고 표현함으로써 타인의 상처와 아픔을 바로 자신의 것으로 이해하고 연대하는 힘을 기름으로써 다문화사회의 시민이 갖추어야 할 다문화적 역량을 개발하는 것을 목적으로 교양강좌를 개발하고 실행하고 평가하였다. 연구 결과 ‘디아스포라적 체험’을 자신의 삶 속에서 찾는 과정을 통해 “정보 전달”이 아니라 공감하는 능력을 형성하는 데 성공하였고, 융합적 접근의 결과 팀티칭 수업은 실제 강좌 운영에 있어서 ‘긴장감’을 준다는 점에서 긍정적이었으나 온오프라인 상의 지속적 상호작용을 통해 연계에 좀 더 노력을 기울일 필요가 있었다. 마지막으로 체험-성찰-표현의 과정에 있어서 표현은 체험의 의미를 성찰하는 과정을 총화하는 계기가 되었다는 점, 그리고 매체에 따라 표현의 차이가 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다.

This study is based upon the criticism that the established studies on multicultural education in the university level have been limited to those for elementary or secondary school pre-service teachers and most of those studies have regarded multicultural education as not related to the other minority discourse. In this vein, this study aims to develop, implement, and evaluate the multicultural education course as civil education for the purpose of developing multicultural competence, which means the ability to empathize the suffering and difficulties of minorities as well as the ability to respect the others. For the purpose, we reconceptualized ‘disaporaic experience’ as the ‘overlapped experience’ with those of other minorities, and let the students search for the lived experience within their lives, reflect upon the experience by analyzing sociocultural context within which the experiences are embedded, and express them by utilizing various media. As results of implementing and evaluating the course, it is revealed that this course enhanced the ability to empathize others’ suffering, team-teaching caused the students alert during the course, and expression culminated the educational process of circulating experience, reflection, and expression.
