작업 기억과 주제 친숙도가 고등학생의 영어 읽기 이해에 미치는 영향

Effects of Working Memory and Topic Familiarity on Korean EFL Students’ Reading Comprehension

본 연구는 경기도 소재 고등학교의 73명 학생들을 대상으로 작업 기억과 주제 친숙도가 명시적 및 추론적 영어 읽기 이해에 미치는 영향이 어떠한지를 살펴보았다. 수집한 자료에 대해 반복측정 다변량 분산분석을 적용한 결과, 작업 기억이 명시적 이해와 추론적 이해의 양 측면에 미치는 영향이 모두 통계적으로 유의미하게 나타났다. 그에 비해 주제 친숙도는 명시적 읽기 이해 측면에서만 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있었으며, 작업기억과 주제 친숙도 간의 상호작용 효과도 나타나지 않았다.

This study investigates the effects of working memory capacity (measured via the conceptual span task) and topic familiarity on Korean EFL students’ literal and inferential reading comprehension. To this end, 73 high school students in Gyeonggi Province participated in the study. Repeated-measures MANOVA was conducted to analyze the data, which showed that working memory capacity had statistically significant effects on both literal and inferential reading comprehension. By contrast, topic familiarity had significant effects only on the literal comprehension.
