A Problem-based WAC Course Model for Critical Thinking

‘문제 기반의 비판적 사고 WAC 수업’이란 비판적 사고를 가르치되, 문제를 비판적 사고 훈련의 토대로 삼으면서 동시에 다양한 형태의 글쓰기를 적극적으로 활용하는 수업을 말한다. 본 논문의 일차적 목적은 문제 해결과 글쓰기를 접목시켜 비판적 사고 수업을 진행한 필자의 경험과 성과를 공유하는데 있다. 이 글은 먼저 ①비판적 사고 교육에서 ‘문제’가 갖는 의미를 밝히고, ②WAC 교과에서 활용되는 글쓰기의 유형을 안내한 후, ③문제 기반의 학습 활동과 여러 유형의 글쓰기가 필자의 <사고의 기초> 수업에서 어떻게 유기적으로 접목되었는지를 개괄적으로 살펴본 다음, ④각각의 글쓰기 과제를 구체적으로 하나하나 소개하고, 마지막으로 ⑤본 수업 모형이 갖는 성과와 한계를 짚어보겠다. 본 논문에서 소개하는, 문제에서 출발해 글쓰기로 마무리하는 다양한 수업 사례들은 학생들의 비판적 사고를 능동적으로 이끄는 좋은 길잡이가 되어 줄 것이다.

A ‘problem-based WAC course for critical thinking’ can be defined as one that teaches critical thinking by not only using PBL(Problem-Based Learning) but also taking advantage of various forms of writing tasks. This study primarily aims to inform readers in what process I have run this kind of PBL+WAC course for critical thinking. I am going to, at first, emphasize the significance of the ‘problem’ in critical thinking education, secondly, introduce various forms of writing tasks that can be utilized in WAC course, thirdly, give an overview of how various kinds of writing tasks was grafted organically onto the problem-based learning activity in my course, fourthly, go into detail of each writing task one by one, and lastly, reflect the fruits and limitations of the course model. I expect those writing tasks I will have specified to become a good guide to lead students to do critical thinking actively.
