분과학문과 교양교육의 불협화, 그 연원과 현실 그리고 전망

Disjunction between Departmental Studies and General Education, its Origin, Reality and Prospect

한국의 대학은 기초학문과 응용학문의 위상 구별도 없이 모든 학과들을 평면 위에 병치하고 전공학과 중심의 교육을 실시함으로써, 학문지향의 교육도 직업지향의 교육도 부실을 면치 못하는 구조적 혼란에 빠져 있다. 기초학문과 응용학문의 구분을 교육에도 반영하여 두 가지 방향의 교육이 공히 내실을 되찾을 수 있도록 교육구조를 성층화하는 일이 긴절히 요구된다. 이를 통해 진정한 의미에서의 ‘교양교육’이 강화됨으로써 각 학문분야의 전공교육은 그 토대를 얻게 되고, 학생들에게는 분과학문의 지식을 융합할 수 있는 ‘지적 연결지평’이 열리게 된다. 문제 자체가 복합적인 정보사회에서 이러한 의미의 융복합 교육은 시대적 요구이다.

From the viewpoint of higher education, the universities in Korea are all ‘drown’ into the structural confusion which has brought about unsuccessful achievement in academic oriented as well as in vocational oriented education. The confusion consists practically in plane jucstaposition of all ‘departments’ on one level without consideration of orderly system of sciences. The difference of pure sciences and applied ones must be kept also in educational system in the form of ‘layer-structure’ so that the academic oriented as well as the vocational oriented education could reach their educational goal. Through this reform the general education in its intrinsic meaning can be also enhanced so that the study in various majors can be fulfilled on firm basics and the ‘intellectual conjunctive horizon’ for the conjunction/ convergence of knowledge in various fields can be opened to the students. This kind of structural reform of higher education in Korea is all the more demanded in the age of information society.
