고린도전서에 반영된 사도들에 대한 판단의 시기와 주체

The Subject and Time of the Judgment of the Apostles Reflected in 1 Corinthians: Focusing on Leadership Succession in 1 Corinthians 4:3-5

본 논문의 목적은 고린도전서 4:3-5절 단락에 반영된 로마 제국 치하의 그리스의 다문화와 다종교의 대표적인 남부 지역인 고린도 지역의 고린도 교회 공동체를 사회 과학 비평과 짐바 르도(Philip Zimbardo)의 사회 심리학적 전망으로 고찰하려는 것이다. 본고는 고린도 공동체와 로마제국 치하의 다양한 이방 종교 문화적 배경과의 관계 등 다양한 공동체의 사회 정치적 상황과 종교 문화적 상황을 고려하여 고린도전서 4:3-5절을 철저하게 주석하여 리더십 승계에 대한 유형을 고찰하였다. 고린도 교인들의 소속감에 대한 욕구가 고린도 교회의 파당의 결과에 중요한 요인으로 작동했을 가능성이 크다. 이러한 점을 간파한 바울은 고린도전서 4장 3-5절에서 자신을 포함한 사도들에 대해서 지금은 고린도 교인들이나 어떤 사람들도, 심지어 자신도 판단할 수 없다는 것을 강력하게 제시한다. 그 이유는 개인이 판단하는 행위 자체는 자유이며, 모든 것이 가하나 파당 형성을 통하여 악영향을 끼치며, 교회를 세움에 있어서 유익하지 않기 때문이다. 이에 바울은 고린도 교인들로 하여금 좋지 못한 사회적 영향에 저항할 수 있도록 ‘자기 인식’, ‘상황적 감수성’, ‘거리의 지혜’를 개발할 수 있도록 돕고자 했던 것으로 볼 수 있다. 더 나아가 바울은 어떤 행위를 유발하기에 중요한 상황과 함께 시스템을 제공한다. 고린도전서 4장 3-5절에서 사도인 종은 주인의 판단만 받는다는 판단의 주체와 시기에 대한 확고한 시스템 구축이다. 그 이유는 먼저 사도들은 당연히 주인이신 주님의 판단만을 받기 때문에, 고린도 교인들이나 다른 어떤 사람들, 자신에게서조차 판단 받지 않아야 한다는 것을 주장한다. 둘째, 종은 주인이 올 때만 판단을 받는다는 논리이다. 사도들의 판단 시기는 주님의 오는 때임을 제시함으로 판단을 유보한다. 이와 같이 바울은 교회를 세워 가는 차원에서 바울 그 자신과 사도들이 고린도 교인들로부터 판단 받지 않아야 한다는 것을 강조하여 변호함으로써 고린도 교회가 다시금 안정된 기반 위에서 든든히 세워져 감으로 선교를 위한 전초 기지가 되기를 원했다.

This article aims at exploring a representative Christian community in Corinth under the Roman Empire from a perspective of social scientific criticism, specifically drawing on social psychological research. This article focuses on thoroughly examining 1 Corinthians 4:3-5 in order to identify the type of leadership succession in diverse sociopolitical and religious contexts. Philip Zimbardo’s social psychological works helps us to understand human desire for belonging, which played the major role in causing schism in the Corinthian Christian community. Apostle Paul recognized the problem of making judgement against one another in the community as one of the root causes of schism, so in his letter he strongly encouraged the community to cultivate self-awareness, situational sensitivity, and wisdom of the street. For this purpose, Paul established a new system of judgement—the only subject of judgment is the Lord—and declared that no one, including a member of the community and even Paul himself, is eligible for making judgement. In addition to the declaration of the subject, Paul declared the time of judgement: the time when the Lord comes in light. Through the declaration of the subject and time of judgment, Paul built up the Corinthian community on the solid ground and set it at the forefront of mission.
