묵자 겸애(兼愛)사상에 대한 고찰: 초등도덕교육에 주는 시사

The meaning of Mozi’s genernal love: Implications for elementary moral education

본 연구의 목적은 묵자의 겸애사상을 이해하고 해석하여 초등학교 도덕과 교육에 주는 시사점을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 묵자의 겸애사상은 다른 사람에 대한 사랑을 우선적으로 실천함으로서 결국에는 자신과 공동체를 평안하게 하려는 목적에서 주창되었다. 겸애사상의 실천은 개인적 차원에서는 교리로 나타나고 공동체 차원에서는 상현과 상동으로 실천되는데, 이는 겸애사상이 형성되고 구현되는 순환관계로 해석된다. 다시 말하면 겸애가 교리와 상현, 상동으로 구현되고 그렇게 구현된 교리, 상현, 상동을 통해 겸애가 더욱 공고화 되는 것이다. 이런 이해의 관점에서 보면, 묵자의 저술들은 겸애와 교리 그리고 상현과 상동이 상호간 형성과 구현된다는 순환관계를 기반으로 하여 비공, 절용, 절상 등 개인과 공동체 차원의 실천지침을 제안한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 묵자의 겸애사상이 주로 실천 지침의 형태로 제안 된 점을 주목하면서 초등학교 도덕과 교육의 방법에서 활용 가능한 시사점을 정리하였다.

This research aims at considering the meaning of General Love , which forms the backbone of Mozi s philosophy, in order to interpret in terms of the moral education theory. The general love insisted by Mozi is to practice love and overcome the egoism by putting oneself into the center. Mozi set personal practice of general love into the doctrine and insisted that general love should be practiced under the category of philanthropism. In addition, Mozi suggested the practices of the community should be formed from the principle of respecting a good person and obeying the elderly. Taking general love of Mozi into consideration in terms of moral education, it can be interpreted that ideal human beings with the thought of general love could contribute themselves to the community by practicing Mozi s doctrine of respecting a good person and obeying the elderly. It is suggested that such an approach could play a pivotal role in the current moral education undergoing confusion with frequent revision of curriculums, for a certain period.
