융복합교육의 기초와 학부대학의 역할

The Basis of Integrative Education & the Role of University College

디지털 기술의 혁명적 발달로 인해 의사소통을 중심으로 하는 인간의 문화적 삶이 그 근본양식에서 바뀌고 있다. 이에 따라 지적 지형이 또한 바뀌는 가운데, 지식의 본성, 형태, 역할이 격심한 변화를 겪고 있다. 이러한 변화 자체가 곧 고등교육에 대한 심각한 응전이다. 대학교육도 이젠 새로운 문명을 맞이할 수 있도록 능력을 기르는 교육으로 변모해야 한다. 그러기 위해 교육중점이 전문지식교육에서 기초능력교육, 교양교육, 융복합교육으로 옮겨가야 한다. 이를 구현하기 위해 교육과정을 쇄신해야 하며, 학사구조도 기초학문분야와 직업교육분야의 교육이 “성층화”되도록 재구조화되어야 한다. 학문간의 지적 유통을 용이하게 함으로써 이러한 새로운 방향의 교육이 원활히 이루어질 수 있도록 “학부대학” 같은 교육기관이 설립되어 자유로운 학업과정을 이수할 수 있도록 해야 한다. 최근에 등장한 소위 “자유전공학부” 같은 것도 이런 방향에서 새로운 시도를 해야 한다.

The “Digital Revolution” has caused the cultural life of human being to change its basic modes in Communication. This has brought the change of intellectual geography which in itself is a challenge to higher education at universities. Higher education should be also changed to cope with the new civilization --- from knowledge-education to ability-education, the focus being moved from Major education to general education, to integrative education. Accordingly the curriculum must be rearranged and the academic structure of juxtaposition must be reorganized into a “layer system”. University College, where interdisciplinary and integrative education can be practiced, ist to be welcomed and supported.
