This paper reviews the current conditions of general education at selected universities in the United States and examines the important implications for the changes in liberal education being considered in Korea s institutions of higher education. Of particular focus are the characteristics of the general education curriculum, community based learning programs, academic advising, independent research for undergraduate students, independent concentration, and roles of residential colleges at Brown, Harvard, and Yale.
