This study aims to overview the general education of Kkottongnae University and one of the liberal arts course Learning Forgiveness . Kkottongnae University, established in 1999 as the only university specializing in social welfare in Korea, has so far strived to inculcate students with the two founding philosophy, the Catholic idea of humanity and the Kkottongnae spirit of love in action . For this purpose Kkottongnae University has made every endeavor to cultivate students with serving, thinking and communicating abilities through the various liberal arts courses. Recently, considerable number of Korean students grow up in disfunctional families, and many of them are deeply wounded by unjust treatment in our society which is overflowing with egoism and individualism. The number of youngsters who give up on life has been the highest among OECD countries for many years. Individuals with low self-esteem due to emotional injury in relationships with others can recover their self-esteem by exerting forgiveness. Forgiveness would also reduce the level of their depression and administer the power to control negative emotions to the individuals. The capability of exerting forgiveness can be trained to enhance. Systematic education in university via liberal arts courses can maximize the effectiveness of such training. The course Learning Forgiveness consists of 13 classes, each of which is taught for two hours per week. The course is based on the models proposed by Enright(1991) and Luskin(2001). To improve the efficiency of the classes the course requires students of active participation. It is anticipated that this course would cure students from past wounds and help to lead a healthy and happy life by increasing the students ability to forgive. The course is also anticipated to help students to build fine characters which comprise preceding conditions of education in general, and eventually to cultivate outstanding individual who are well-suited for the founding philosophy of Kkottongnae University.
