The Core Curriculum, Critical Thinking and Academic Writing Skills in an Adult-learning Environment

The rise of adult education has necessitated re-considerations about education in today’s dynamic learning landscape. The term “andragogy” emerged as a response to, and also to exten,d the possibilities that are brought about by these developments. This paper examines the considerations that go into the developmental and evolutionary processes of Critical Thinking and Academic Writing as two undergraduate subjects (as part of a Core Curriculum) in an adult-dominant university. Some attention will be paid to the pedagogical and andragogical concerns in the design of these subjects, given the student demographics involved.
