In this study, we describe the application of ultrasonic communication for mobile authentication. Ultrasonic communication can be utilized in all kinds of embedded systems with a universal-type speaker and a microphone. In addition, it is possible to determine whether users are indoor or outdoor, because the ultrasound signal is rarely transmitted through walls or glass doors. In this report, we propose a protocol and algorithm for ultrasonic communication to facilitate authentication in security systems. Our proposed method does not require direct contact such as in NFC authentication, and it can address a weak point that is missed due to a wide access range such as in BLE authentication.
