Measurement and Analysis of Power Quality for Major Facilities with Low-Voltage Load Centers in Power Plants

Owing to the development of power electronic devices and the increase of nonlinear loads, the harmonic content in the low voltage systems in power plants, which employ the device or nonlinear load, is continuously increasing. In this study, we analyzed the major power characteristics, such as voltage fluctuation rate, current unbalance, power factor, and harmonic analysis of EP and Seawater Electrolysis (S.E.) facilities. As a result of the actual measurement, a few systems were found to be operating without satisfying the conditions of the international standard; thus, it is necessary to install appropriate compensation equipment. Based on the data gathered for this study, it is possible to calculate the appropriate capacity of the facility to improve the power quality in the future. This calculation would also be beneficial for the stable operation of the low-voltage load centers in power plants.
